Egg donation recipients are women under 50 years of age who, for some reason, have not been able to successfully conceive. The reasons for needing egg donation are many: some women have not gotten pregnant through IVF treatments, others have a decreased ovarian reserve, others have a hereditary disease that they do not want to transmit to their offspring and yet others have spontaneous premature ovarian failure or ovarian failure due to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The solution to these problems is to receive donor eggs.

How is the cycle programmed?

Once the test results are normal, the recipient starts preparing for the cycle. Both donor and recipient are put on birth control pills in order to sync their cycles. If the egg recipient still has her period, she takes a down regulation shot to switch off the ovaries which is necessary to control the hormones and change the endometrial texture.

The patient starts taking estrogen (Estradiol Valerate) and she gets a scan on the seventh day to make sure that the endometrium is ready for an embryo´s implantation.

The recipient can be on estrogen from anywhere between 7 and 30 days before the donor´s egg retrieval. The recipient´s husband/partner must be at ProcreaTec on the day of the egg retrieval for a sperm sample, and, on the following day we inform the couple of the number of fertilized eggs they obtained, and on what day the embryo implantation takes place – day two, three or five.

Donors

Donors are healthy, psychologically stable young women who have been tested for infectious and genetic diseases. ProcreaTec follows Spanish legislation that only permits anonymous egg donation. (Law 14/2006 from 27th May 2006).

Donors, therefore, will never learn the identity of the woman who receives their eggs, nor will the egg recipient find out the identity of the donor.
