Many times after an IVF cycle and embryo replacement there are extra embryos. Cryopreservation is a technique that maintains the viability of the fresh unused embryos so that they can be used at a later date. Pregnancy rates are slightly lower than when using fresh embryos but they are about 30-35%.
 

Assisted hatching with fragment removal is sometimes done after thawing the embryo to increase implantation chances. Sometimes cellular lysis is found and this can later interfere with the embryo’s compacting. With this technique we can eliminate that cell. This is possible after day three of the embryo’s development as all the cells are similar at this stage. Extracting the affected cell does not impact on later development since cellular differentiation has not yet occurred.
