ICSI - Sperm microinjection

Intracytoplasmatic Sperm Injection

ICSI consists of injecting a spermatozoon of good motility and morphology into the egg. The patient undergoes an IVF cycle and egg retrieval is performed at the right moment. Afterwards, the process of embryo development in the lab and the embryo transfer are the same as in conventional IVF.

Thousands of children conceived by ICSI have been followed up and the technique has been proven safe. In some cases of genetic-related sterility there can be a slight increase in anomalies in the offspring. However, other studies show no difference.
